The following data is extracted from North Carolina, World War 1, Military Records.

2nd Class Q. M., Navy, U. S. S. Iowa. Born in Halifax County; the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Rowe. Entered the service Aug. 14, 1918, at Operating Base, Norfolk, Va. Sailed for overseas service on U. S. S. Wilhelmina. Made four trips across. One to St. Nazaire, two to Brest, and one to Bordeaux. Mustered out at Hampton Roads, Va., Aug. 28, 1919.
