The following data is extracted from North Carolina, World War 1, Military Records.

Seaman, Navy; son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Hamer; of Robeson County. Entered the service May 7, 1918, at Maxton, N.C. Was sent to Camp at Norfolk, Va. Transferred to Hampton Roads then to Camp in Minnesota, then to Ohio. Later engaged in convoying troops from France over Transport "Nor. Pacific and Callas." Mustered out at Norfolk, Va., Sept. 18, 1919.
