Tuttle, Joseph W.

(VIII) Joseph W., son of Anson S. Tuttle, was born in the town of Farmington, New York, January 9, 1860. He was educated in the public schools of his native town and at the Canandaigua Academy, and supplemented his schooling by constant reading and study. He was from early youth active on his father's farm, gifted with energy, and strong purposes and a capacity for hard work. As a man he has followed farming with uniform success. His farm consists of sixty-eight acres of land, thoroughly underdrained and very productive. In politics he is a Republican, and he has taken an active part in public affairs and has been honored with many positions of trust and responsibility. For four years he was town clerk, and by virtue of his office an efficient member of the town board. Afterward he served three terms as supervisor of the town, and was for six years a member of the town board and county board of supervisors, a member of important committees, and influential and prominent throughout the country. He is a member of Farmington Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, and of the Society of Friends. He married, November 26, 1879, Elizabeth C. Padgham, born in Farmington, November 6, 1860, daughter of Joseph Padgham. Children: 1. Mary E., born October 23, 1882; married William H. White; resides in Connecticut. 2. Joseph E., born May 7, 1890; married Maggie Cooper. November 6, 1910; he was educated in the schools of Victor and Cornell, New York; now (1910) engaged in farming.
