The sterling citizen whose every thought is for the community's good in which he has reared his home and cemented his associations, must always command the respect and esteem of his fellowmen. Of such metal and commanding such respect is he whose name is inscribed above. James N. Fell Is a native of Canada; he came to Malheur county in 1875, and began ranching and stock raising in Jordan valley an occupation in which he is still largely engaged. In 1890 he was elected sheriff of the county on the democratic ticket, and again in 1892, the republicans that year finding no one to run against him. Mr. Fell has many and varied interests, he being president of the Vale Milling Company, and the Vale Electric Light Company, also is largely interested in the Malheur Telephone Company, and half owner of the famous geyser or hot well of which we present a cut. He has also done much to improve the town, his present place of business being a handsome structure of stone, 53x38 and two stories high. Fraternally he is a member of the Masons and Odd Fellows.
