Illustrated History of the State of Idaho was written in 1899 by the Lewis Publishing Company and comprised one of many large collections of state biography and history books published by the Lewis company. Our collection provides the entire manuscript including the histories and all 480 published biographies.

The records provided in this collection come from two annual editions of the “Year Book of the Holland Society of New York.” They represent the baptisms from 1666-1692 and marriages from 1665-1788. For the most part the names are Dutch in heredity.

Frederick College, previously situated in Portsmouth, Virginia, was a private co-educational college that ceased operations. Established with the support of the Fred W. Beazley Foundation (now known as the Beazley Foundation), the college originated in 1958 as a two-year institution located on the premises of a former munitions depot. In 1961, it transitioned into a four-year college. Various years have been digitized by both the Portsmouth Public Library in cooperation with The Library of Virginia, and the Allen County Public Library. This is a collection of 197 free vital records books, otherwise known as “Tan Books” for Massachusetts towns. Generally these records go up to 1849/1850 at which, the genealogist can use the census records to assist in identifying the family connections further. Included with this article is an account of why and how these manuscripts were published along with links to all 197 books which can be freely read or downloaded.
The Plainfield, New Jersey Police Department records, spanning from 1890 to 1948, offer a unique window into the past, providing genealogists and historians alike with a bounty of information. These records, housed at the Plainfield Public Library, encompass a wide array of documents including arrest records, city court records, daily blotters, detective records, permit records, summons recordings, and general police logs. This collection stems from a manuscript published by Hamilton Child in 1887 which provided a gazetteer for Lamoille and Orleans County. Within that manuscript was a brief history of each community, a directory of each community, and short biographical sketches of some of the leading citizens for each town.

These supplement the history and add that intimate and personal touch, without which no work of this kind could be truly interesting. The following biographies were written in 1922 and pertain to “important” men who resided in the Muskogee and northeastern areas of Oklahoma. By important, it should be emphasized that each biography was submitted along with a payment for inclusion in the biographical manuscript. Therefore, anyone who chose not to pay for such a service was often left out of the manuscript. The counties covered by this manuscript include Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Delaware, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Nowata, Ottawa, Rogers, Sequoyah, Wagoner, and Washington.
