The following data is extracted from History of the Town of Cornish, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.
GEORGE8 WELD (Horace7, John6, Moses5, John4, Joseph3, John2, Joseph1) was b. Dec. 13, 1817; m. April 9, 1843, Maria Chase of Cornish, dau. of Theodore and Judith (Bryant) Chase, b. Nov. 18, 1821; d. Sept. 9. 1894. For many years a teacher of schools in N. H. and Mass. Served as drum major in the home militia, hence received the title of major. He d. Jan. 6, 1883. Children:
1. FRANCES MARIA, b. Jan. 11, 1844; d. Sept. 8, 1847.
2. SARAH ABBIE, b. Feb. 16, 1846; m. July 20, 1862, Charles N. Hilliard of Cornish. Three children. (See Hilliard.) She d. Oct. 16, 1874.
3. Louis EDWARD, b. Nov. 12, 1848; m. July 10, 1873, Hattie E. Bailey of Cornish, dau. of Andrew and Sarah (McCallister) Bailey, b. May 28, 1859; d. May 13, 1892. No children.
4. LOUISA MARIA, b. Feb. 19, 1852; m. Jan. 7, 1874, Nathan E. Bugbee then of Windsor, Vt. Lives in Fitchburg, Mass.
5. IDA MAY, b. Nov. 29, 1854; d. Aug. 16, 1856.
6. FRANCES IDA, b. June 3, 1857; m. March 15, 1879, Fred D. Wiley. No children. She d. April 26, 1882.
7. GEORGIANA, b. Dec. 31, 1859; m. Dec. 31, 1884, Seth R. Cole (second wife) then of Cornish. One child. (See Cole.) She d. in Claremont, April 27, 1896.
8. MARTHA ETTA, b. Oct. 26, 1862.
9. GEORGE, JR., b. May 1, 1865; d. Dec. 1, 1869.
10. NELLIE JUDITH, b. Aug. 26, 1867; m. March 5, 1889, Will E. Putnam of Claremont. Two children. She d. Dec. 12, 1903, in Binghamton, N. Y., where they had recently settled.
