GEORGE HAMILTON: fourth Earl of Aberdeen (1784-1860) ,
statesman; s. George G-, Lord Haddo; b. Edinburgh; founded the
Athenian Society, 1803 ; member of parliament; invested with order of the Thistle, 1808 ; appointed ambassador extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to Vienna, 1813 ; represented Great Britain at the Congress of Chatillon, 1814, and signed the treaty of Paris; as reward for diplomatic skill was created a peer by title of Viscount Gordon of Aberdeen; invested with order of the Garter at Windsor, 1855.
