Weld, Joseph
The following data is extracted from History of the Town of Cornish, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.
JOSEPH WELD came from England in 1638 and settled in Plymouth, Mass. He had a son, John2, b. Oct. 28, 1623, who had a son Joseph3, b. Sept. 13, 1650, who had a son John4, b. Aug. 19, 1689. He had a son Moses5, b. March 27, 1722. He m. first, Dec. 6, 1748, Elizabeth Holbrook, b. Jan. 13, 1727; d. July 11, 1763; m. second, July 11, 1764, Deborah Faulkner, b. Aug. 26, 1735; d. July 31, 1828. Had six children by each wife, all b. before coming to town. In advanced life he and Deborah came to Cornish, where they spent the remainder of their lives. He d. May 10, 1806. Children by Elizabeth Holbrook:
1. SARAH, b. Aug. 11, 1750. Lived in Barnston, Canada, where she d. Oct. 14, 1804.
2. JOHN, b. Jan. 3, 1752.
3. HANNAH, b. Sept. 25, 1754; m. March 6, 1777, Dea. Josiah Stone of Cornish. Eight children. (See Stone.) She d. Oct. 26, 1794.
4. MOSES, b. Jan. 15, 1757.
5. WALTER, b. April 24, 1761; m. Dec. 11, 1783, Lucy Carpenter. Nine children. He d. at Plattsburg, N. Y., a soldier, in Dec., 1813.
6. NEHEMIAH, b. June 30, 1763; d. July 11, 1763. Children by Deborah Faulkner.
7. TIMOTHY, b. Aug. 4, 1765; m. first, Sally Hammond. Five children. She d. June 4, 1813; m. second, Abigail Gifford and by her had four children.
8. EBENEZER, b. Jan. 31, 1768; and d. April 21, 1835, aged 67. Never m. Was the historian of the Weld family. At his decease he bequeathed to the Baptist Church the sum of $1,200 on conditions.
9. CHESTER, b. Aug. 27, 1769.
10. ELIZABETH, b. Oct. 22, 1772; m. Moses Stone. Two children. She d. July 20, 1805.
11. DEBORAH, b. Oct. 16, 1774; d. Nov. 20, 1795.
12. PELEG, b. July 7, 1780.
