FIFTH GENERATION
(51) JOHN5 (John4 Thomas3 Thoinas2 Thomas1), bapt. Sept. 12, 1756; died Oct. 15 1833. He was a soldier in the Revolution, and enlisted May 1775, in Capt. John Merritt’s company, under Col. John Glover, commander of the 21st Mass. Reg’t of foot. He served eight months in the siege of Boston, and afterwards served one year, 1176—7, in Capt. Enoch Putnam’s company, of Col. Israel Hutchinson’s regiment, and was with. Gen. Washington at the crossing of the Delaware River. He afterwards was one of the crew of the schooner Tyraniside, and served in the war of 1812, when he was taken prisoner on board the privateer brig Thorn of Marblehead, and for a number of months he lay in prison at Halifax, until the peace of 1815. He married Sept. 1780, Ruth, dau. of Mark and Ruth (Coombs) Haskell, bapt. Sept. 4, 1157, died Aug. 21, 1808. (Sec Haskell Family, No. 24.)
