The following data is extracted from The Descendants of Thomas White.
(4,) JOHN2 (Thomas1), born in Marblehead in 1671; died July, 1748. He was admitted a member of the first church in Marblehead, and afterwards chosen deacon, March 12, 1715-16. Nov. 2, 1720, he was chosen a delegate to assist in the ordination of Rev. Nathaniel Henchman over the church at Lynn; also Sept. 24, 1721, was a delegate with others to Worcester, to settle some differences and difficulties that bad arisen in the church at that place. The following item occurs in the records of the first church " 1748-9, Feb. 5. The Chh. stayed, and the Pastor propounded, that whereas the Providence of God had taken away Deacon John White, a faithful Servant of the Chh. from us, they would think of some proper Person among us to be Chosen into the Deacon's Office in Convenient Time. John Barnard, Pastor." After a delay of about two months, "Brother Hendley was chosen as his successor," April 9, 1748. April 9,1724, he bought of John Jeffries, of Boston, for £40, his warehouse with the land under it, at Nick's Cove; April 1,1726, from Huckstable Baker, shipwright, of Marblehead, and John Mills, of Boston, 7200 square feet of land, which he afterwards, April 13, 1738, sold to Samuel Twisden; also, same date, he and widow Arabella White sold to said Twisden, their four-fifth parts of two acres of land bounded on Read, Cheever, the Town Common and said Twisden. He was executor of the will of John Roades, of Marblehead. He was also trustee for Margaret Hutchings, grandchild of Thomas Ellis and daughter of 11 and Sarah Hutchings, to hold the property given her, comprising the homestead in which said Ellis lived, and other estate, till she was of lawful age, or married. In case of her decease the said property to go to " his cousins, Thomas, James and John Trevey [Trefry], Elizabeth White [wife of Dea. John], Margaret Rhodes, Arabella White [wife of Samuel], Mary Bailey, Sarah Huckstable and Dorcas White."
He calls John White his loving friend. Dated April 16, 1712.
Mr. White made his will Aug. 6,1746, which was proved July 14, 1748, wherein he mentions his two daughters, Sarah Procter, Elizabeth Bowden, and children of his son Samuel, deceased~ viz., Samuel and Elizabeth White.
He married June 7,1694, Elizabeth Trefry, born____, died Jan. 1735—6. She was admitted to the church, Feb. 24, 1694—5.
