The subject of this sketch was born in Greene County, Tennessee, September 9, 1811. His parents, James and Mary Moore Dinsmore, were both natives of the same County; his mother died in 1853; his father survived her many years, dying some seven years ago. Our subject was reared upon a farm in his native County, and there received his education. When twenty-one years of age lie left home and went to Laurel County, Kentucky, and at London, in that State, learned the blacksmith trade, which tree his father had learned before him. He continued to work at his trade until his marriage, and for six years after, that event taking place on the 25th of October, 1842, when Miss Martha A. Blakely became his wife. She was a daughter of Charles Blakely, and was a native of Kentucky. September 28, 1848; accompanied by his wife and family, Mr. Dinsmore removed to Missouri and located in Daviess County, where he resided up to the time of his death, which occurred October 12, 1880, in the sixty-ninth year of his age. He was one of the most prominent and highly respected citizens of the County. His farm, consisting of 160 acres, of which 120 are under cultivation, is one of the best in the County. Mrs. Martha A. Dinsmore lives upon the old Homestead, loved and esteemed by all who know her. Mr. and Mrs. Dinsmore became the parents of the following named children : James, Julia A., Martha J. (now Mrs. Isaac Jordan), Sallie (now Mrs. W. H. Cruse), John B., William C., Henry A., Charles B., Elizabeth, Samuel A. and Elwood.
