Guthery, S. B.

Was born in Pike county, Ohio, October 27, 1817. His grandfather was a colonel in the Revolutionary War, and in 1800 immigrated to the then far West-now the State of Ohio. When our subject was a boy he was employed by William Parmer, of Bourbon county, Kentucky; in keeping training and running fast horses. In 1837 he turned his attention to farming and has followed that business ever since, together with handling stock; with the exception of a short time he was engaged in grading on the Portsmouth & Columbus turnpike in 1840, and conducted a tannery in Scioto 'county, Ohio, a few years. ln April, 1847, he settled upon the farm where he now lives.

Mr. Guthery was united in marriage November 21, 1840, to Miss Nancy L. March. She was born January 24, 1822. They had four children: Nancy-dead; William B., born April 3, 1845; James A.-dead; and Sarah-dead.
William B. Guthery, son of S. B. Guthery, was born in Lucas county, (Ohio, and lives on the old homestead, where his father settled in 1847. He was educated at Smith's Mercantile College, of Portsmouth, Ohio, and was engaged from 1869 to 1873 in the mercantile business and in the handling and shipping of mules at Jameson. Since that time he has been engaged in farming.

William B. Guthery was united in marriage, June 28, 1868, to Miss Eliza A. Brown, who was born in this county, August 20, 1852. They have one child, James A., born June 29, 1869.
