VanHise, Harley Ose – Obituary

Harley Ose VanHise, 88, of Bend, the husband of former longtime Baker County Clerk Anita Johnson VanHise, died Feb. 21, 2008.

At his request, there will be no service.

Mr. VanHise was born on March 9, 1919, at St. Maries, Idaho, to Harrison A. and Nellis M. Elliott VanHise.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Western Oregon College (now Western Oregon University) at Monmouth and a master’s degree from Eastern Oregon College (now Eastern Oregon University) at La Grande.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He served as a teacher and administrator in public middle schools at Redmond, Burns and Meridian, Idaho, where he retired.

He married Anita Fleming Johnson on Nov. 27, 1982, at Reno, Nev. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, reading and playing bridge.

Survivors include his wife, Anita of Bend; sons, Charles and his wife, Joanne, and David, both of Burns; stepsons, Robert Johnson of Springfield and Larry Johnson of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be mad to the Central Oregon Home Health and Hospice or Central Oregon Human Society.

Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
