Vandetta, Ray – Obituary

Ray Vandetta, 55, of Baker City died Jan. 4, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge, 61341 Highway 97, in Bend.

Ray was born on Sept. 20, 1949, at Prairie City to Choicey Aldura Jones and Charles Freeman Vandetta. He grew up at Monument.

At the age of 12, the family moved to Bend. Ray lived most of his life in John Day, until moving to Baker City in 2002.

Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman; he enjoyed anything that included being in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed going to rodeos.

He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving in Vietnam.

Ray was a very good timber faller and also a mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Vandetta of Baker City; daughters, Jennifer Conklin and Niki Vandetta, both of Bend and Amy Vandetta of Prineville; a son, Austin Vandetta of Pilot Rock; stepson, Jasen Smith of Eugene; stepdaughter, Danielle Pelroy of Eugene; his mother, Choicey Condley of Bend; a brother; five sisters; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with Ray’s memorial service, in care of Gray’s West & Co., P.O. Box 726, Baker City, OR 97814.
