Taylor, Balam Alonzo (Lon) – Obituary

Balam Alonzo “Lon” Taylor, 94, 1336 Valley Ave. a longtime Baker Valley rancher, died Wednesday June 1, 1988, at his home.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. The Rev. Greg Eicher of the United Methodist Church will officiate. A concluding service and interment will follow at the Haines Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor was born June 20, 1893 at Willow Creek, in Baker County to Thomas Isaiah and Delila Ann Phillips Taylor. His father moved to the Rock Creek area in 1952.

Mr. Taylor was married to Dorcy Aurora Higgins. She died Dec. 25, 1946.

Mr. Taylor attended school at the Lone Pine School at the foot of Hunt Mountain. He loved to play cards and to call square dances. He was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and was the oldest member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He had been a member for 75 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his children, Jack Taylor of Enterprise, Howard Taylor of Haines and Debbie Massey of Baker; a brother, Ralph Taylor of North Powder; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Russell Taylor, who was killed in World War II; a daughter, Faye Longbreak; a brother, Henry Taylor; and a sister, Ivy Nice.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association. This may be done through Grays West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave.
