Honor Memory Of Train Victim

The Christian Church of Wallowa could not hold the many sorrowing friends who came Saturday afternoon, March 17, 1951 at 2:00 o’clock to pay their last tribute to Glenn D. Sherod, who was instantly killed Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 1951 at the Evans railroad crossing. Death came when the truck he was driving was struck by the Union Pacific freight train.

Rev. O.W. Jones, pastor of the Christian Church, officiated at the services and Victor Kreimeyer and Mrs. Rachel Sutphin, accompanied by Mrs. Kreimeyer, sang, “The Old Rugged Cross.” “In The Garden” and Beautiful Garden Of Prayer.” Pallbearers, neighbors of the Sherod family, were Hoy Carmen, Tom Willett, Bill DeGroft, Wesley Conrad, Hollis DeGrofft and Alvin Hunter, and honorary pallbearers were Todd Conrad, Corda Locke, Barton Wade, W.H. Weinhard, Merlin Waelty and Martin Peterson. Internment was in the Wallowa cemetery.

Mr. Sherod, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Sherod, was born in Wallowa March 17, 1891. He was a graduate of Wallowa High School and attended business college two years. On December 3, 1913, he was married to Miss Hilma Plass who survives him. Since their marriage he had been a successful rancher near Wallowa.

He is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clifford Kiser of Walla Walla, and Mrs. LeRoy Emmons of La Grande; one grandson, Bobby Kiser, two half-brothers, Earl Sherod of Wallowa, and Tony Sherod of Albany, Oregon;an uncle, W.C. Eads of Enterprise, and his mother, Mrs. Jennie Sherod of Wallowa.
