John Francis Shepherd, 67, of The Dalles and formerly of La Grande, died Aug. 8, at his home of cancer.
Mr. Shepherd was born July 28, 1939, to John and Francis May Furgason Shepherd in La Grande. He graduated high school in Portland, and served in the Army from 1958 until 1962. He moved to Baker, and settled in The Dalles in 1971.
He was a journeyman lineman, and married Marie Fay Mattison on April 13, 1963, in La Grande. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Electricians Union Local 125 IBEW. He enjoyed elk hunting in Eastern Oregon, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of The Dalles; children and their spouses, Timothy and Shelly Shepherd of Gladstone, Susanne L. Frantz of Boyd, and Tonya M. Shepherd of The Dalles; a sister, Anne Shepherd; five grandchildren; an aunt and uncle, Jack and Lois Furgason, and other relatives. An uncle, Dempsey Furgason, and a son-in-law, Ed Frantz, died earlier.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1220 W. 10th St. in The Dalles, with graveside services following at the IOOF 3 Mile Cemetery.
