Maude Mahaffey Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Maude Mahaffey, who had been ill for several months, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, January 29, 1952 at her home in Enterprise. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, February 1, at 2:00 o’clock from the Community church with the Booth-Bollman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Rev. John Munsey, pastor, will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Simmons, Albert Wilson, Charles E. Crow, J.A. Eggleson, C.H. Zurcher and Alvin McFetridge, and acting as active pallbearers, will be W.S. Strickler, A.M. Pace, C.N. Miller, Elmer McFetridge, John McFetridge, and Glenn Russell, all of whom are old friends of the Mahaffey and Craig families. Burial will be in the Enterprise cemetery, beside the grave of her husband who passed away October 13, 1947. the casket will not be opened at the church but friends may call at the Booth-Bollman Funeral Home where the body is lying in state.

Maude Elizabeth Craig was born at Enterprise February 3, 1880, daughter of George S. and Sallie B. Dishman Craig. On January 15, 1906 she was married to Henry C. Mahaffey at Lewiston, Idaho. Most of her life was spent in Wallowa county, although during the early years of their married life she and her husband lived for a time in Lewiston and Walla Walla. They also spent a year in Warren, Ohio, a year in Montgomery, Ala., and three years in Spokane, before returning to make their home in Wallowa county.

Mrs. Mahaffey was a talented woman and was an active member of the Community church and of the Women’s Association of the church. Surviving are two brothers, W. Frazier Craig and Asa P. Craig, of Enterprise; one sister, Mrs. R. C. (Joyce J.) Wiley, of College Park, Maryland; and a number of nephews and nieces. Her father passed away June 16, 1936 and her mother June 10, 1947.

Mr. and Mrs. Frazier Craig, who are spending the winter in the east, and Mrs. Wiley will be unable to come for the funeral.
