Junior Issac “J.I.” Kinnaman, 82, a former Baker City resident, died June 30, 2007, at Tillamook.
Interment was at Columbia Memorial Cemetery in Pasco, Wash. Waud’s Funeral Home of Tillamook was in charge of arrangements.
J.I. was born on May 24, 1925, at Fruitland, Idaho, to Elza and Vasie Ventrees Kinnaman. He attended high school until he joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16.
He served his country honorably for three years, until March of 1946. On June 20, 1946, he married Mary Detmer at Payette, Idaho. Together they owned and operated a wheat and dairy farm in Weiser, Idaho, for six years.
They lived at Baker City for 25 years and were members of the First Lutheran Church, later moving to Pasco, Wash., where J.I. lived for 27 years. While in Pasco, he worked as superintendent of the Franklin County Road Department. Junior lived with family at Beaver for the last three years of his life.
He loved remote control airplanes and built his own. He was a proud member of the Basin Big Birds. Junior will be greatly missed by all who knew him, his family said.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two children, Linda Ashby and her husband, Pat, of Beaver and Lee Kinnaman and his wife, Stella, of Des Moines, Wash.; a sister, Betty Cornwall of Caldwell, Idaho; a grandson, Kristofor Ashby of Portland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
