Kasper, LaVonne B. Hayhurst Beard Mrs. – Obituary

LaVonne B. Kasper, 51, of Baker City, died July 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane.

Bishop Allen Bingham will officiate. Interment will be at the Haines Cemetery. There will be a reception afterward at the LDS Church.

LaVonne was born on July 6, 1956, at Lone Pine, Calif., to Ernest Murphy and Clara Mai Rook Hayhurst. She graduated from Carlsbad High School and attended Brigham Young University at Provo, Utah.

She was a wonderful homemaker and mother and she was also a foster care provider. LaVonne married Aaron Kasper on Feb. 18, 1983, at the Jordan River Temple in Utah.

She enjoyed many things in life including gardening, flowers, walking, swimming, hiking, going to the Oregon Coast and going to the movies. LaVonne was an avid pottery artist and she also enjoyed bird watching, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

LaVonne was a member of the Crossroads Art Center Board in Baker City. She attended some classes there and taught pottery classes as well. She also taught pottery classes as an artist-in-residence to many schools throughout the state with the Eastern Oregon Regional Art Council and was a volunteer with Heart ‘n’ Home Hospice.

Survivors include her husband, Aaron Kasper of Baker City; three sons, James and Luke Beard of Baker City and Jesse Beard of Enterprise; two daughters, Lacey Kasper of North Powder and Jennifer Kasper of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Clay and Tucker Martin, Kenton McGuire, and Emma and Mike Brown.

She was preceded in death by her previous husband, James Lee Beard; and by her father, Ernest Murphy Hayhurst.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Art Center through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
