Huang, Shao Hong “Christine” – Obituary

Shao Hong “Christine” Huang, 37, of Baker City, died Sept. 14, 2007.

Visitations will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Following the visitation, friends are invited to remain at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel for a time of reflection and sharing stories of Christine’s life, prior to the procession to Mount Hope Cemetery. Interment will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery. Father Julian Cassar of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral will officiate.

Shao Hong Huang was born on Oct. 5, 1969, in China to Xi L. Huang and Ju Hu Huang. At 16, she moved with her family to Baker for the “American Dream.” Christine attended Baker High School and graduated in 1991. Following school, she began working as a waitress for her uncle’s restaurant, Fong’s Tea House.

During her schooling in China, Christine met Lik Fei “Phillip” Wong whom she would return to China to marry. The couple wed on Jan. 31, 1994, in Hong Kong. Phillip returned with Christine to Baker late in 1994 and together they worked at her uncle’s restaurant. Just last year they had purchased the restaurant. Christine and Phillip had three children: Johnny, Amy and Anthony.

Christine enjoyed spending time with her children and family. She also enjoyed fashion and style — she loved to take the children shopping. She was loved by all her customers and was a great waitress; she always had a smile and enjoyed getting to know them.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Wong; children: Johnny, Amy and Anthony; parents, Xi & Ju Huang, all of Baker City; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Ronald McDonald House in care of Gray’s West & Co., 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
