Mrs. Hotchkiss Dead
Wife of Well-known Stock Buyer Answers the Last Summons.
Mrs. M. E. Hotchkiss died at her home in Enterprise Friday morning after an illness of over 13 weeks. The body was taken to Elgin Saturday morning and the funeral was held at Elgin Sunday afternoon under the auspices of the Rathbone Sisters’ lodge of that city.
Florence Wheeler was born in Tellico, Texas, January 9, 1876, and was at the time of her death, 31 years, 11 months, and 13 days of age. In 1887, in the company with her parents she came to Elgin, Oregon where they arrived on the first day of March. They settled near Elgin and the next few years were spent in that vicinity. She was married M.E. Hotchkiss and for 12 years lived in Elgin where she enjoyed the esteem of every one in the community: a little over a year ago they move to Enterprise where they have since resided. During the past three months, Mrs. Hotchkiss has been quite ill and during that time has won the admiration of all by her fortitude and cheerfulness. The best of medical skill availed nothing and death, the only relief, arrived at length and set the sufferer free.
She leaves three little daughters; Irma, aged 12; Iolyn, aged 9; and the baby, Florence, aged three months; a husband and host of other relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
