Holman, Glenn Chester Jr. – Obituary

Glenn Chester Holman Jr., 63, of Baker City died May 3, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Health Services after a long battle with multiple health problems.

There will be a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Eagles Club, 2935 H St. It will be a potluck and all friends and family are invited.

Glenn was born on Sept. 6, 1944, at Van Nuys, Calif., to Glenn Holman Sr. and Betty Shutt. Glenn attended Antelope Valley High School at Lancaster, Calif., until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965. After a tour in Vietnam and serving as a member of the 82nd Airborne, he returned to the states in 1967.

In the early 1970s he began a job with Lockheed Aircraft Co. He had a hand with the SR-71 and the U-2 program among plenty others. Glenn loved his job and being a member of the “Skunk Works” program.

In the early 1980s Glenn and his then-girlfriend Betsey moved to Halfway where they were married on May 17, 1981. Their daughter was born in December of 1982.

The family lived at Halfway until the early spring of 1983. Glenn and his family lived in Baker City for most of his life where Glenn worked as a welder fabricator.

Glenn enjoyed many hobbies, but his passion was crafting model airplane kits.

His exquisite craftsmanship and love of flight made for a beautiful collection, his family members said. His attention to detail made for the most beautiful art that people who knew him had ever seen, they said.

Glenn was greatly loved by anyone who ever came into contact with him, according to his family. He had friends in many places across the country and will be greatly missed by everyone. He always had a unique way of touching everyone’s lives. He will never be forgotten in the hearts of all his friends and family, they said.

Survivors include his wife, Betsey, and daughter, Lacey; and son, Jeff, and daughter, Chanel, from a previous marriage; brothers, Bob and Bill; sister, Beverly; and his mother, Betty. Family also included “stand-in” daughter, Lana; and “right-hand dog,” The Fonz.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
