Bernard “Roy” Hollingsworth, 80, of Huntington died Nov. 12, 2002, at his home.

At his request, there will be no funeral. Coles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hollingsworth was born June 13, 1922, at Christman, Ill. He was a son of Joseph Howard and Pearl Frances Griffith Hollingsworth.

He was educated at Chrisman, Ill., and joined the U.S. Navy at Bremerton, Wash., during World War II as a seaman 1st class. He served on a fleet oiler in the Aleutian Islands.

Upon returning to Portland after the war, he met and married Nina Poulos at Vancouver, Wash., while working in the shipyards as a welder. He returned to Illinois and worked on a farm for a couple of years before returning to Oregon.

Mr. Hollingsworth then went to work as a meat cutter at Huntington. He worked at Huntington for several months and then at Baker City for a year and a half.

He then moved to Burns for two years and then to Portland until his retirement. After his retirement, he and his wife, Nina, returned to Huntington.

He was a member of the Meat Cutters Union 555 at Portland.

Mr. Hollingsworth described himself as a lay arounder. He enjoyed camping with his family and traveling.

Survivors include his children, Gary and Terry Hollingsworth of Portland, Jim and Karen Hollingsworth of Olympia, Wash., Linda and Jason McGowan of Arizona, Kenneth Van Kirk of Boise and Ronald Van Kirk of Germany; a brother Jim Hollingsworth of Vancouver, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother, Rex Hollingsworth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington Lions Club through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.
