Hoffman, Jasmine Johnette Garrett Mrs – Obituary

Mrs. Jasmine Johnette Hoffman, 71, 1407 Washington St., died Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Community Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Church, Richalnd. Bishop Dennis L. Fuller, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Eagle Valley Cemetery, Richland, under the direction of the Beatty Chapel.

Mrs. Hoffman was born January 27, 1900 at Bountiful, Utah. She came to Eastern Oregon in 1903 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Garrett. She attended school in Pine Valley and was married to George William Hoffman on October 30, 1915 in Baker.

The couple lived in Cornucopia until 1918 when they moved to Eagle Valley, where Mrs. Hoffman resided most of her life until coming to Baker in 1963. During World War II she worked in the shipyards on Swan Island in Portland. After the war she operated the Swish-In Cafe in Richland for 16 years. In 1963 she came to Baker where she operated the Geiser Cafe for one year. Her husband died on August 26, 1955.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Katura May Haynes, Hermiston and Mrs. Roy (Eula) Grissom, Reno, Nevada; two sons, William Nathan Hoffman, Stanfield, Oregon and John Edward Hoffman, Adams, Oregon; four sisters, Mrs. Viola Gover, Hermiston, Mrs. Mabel Blank, Renton, Washington, Mrs. Gladys Byrne and Mrs. Elsie Blank, Richland; three brothers, Clyde Garrett, Baker, George Garrett, Phoenix and Earl Garrett, New Bridge; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
