Hartley, Harold Eugene “Badger” – Obituary

Harold Eugene “Badger” Hartley of North Powder died May 31, 2008, at his home.

At his request, there will be no service.

He was born March 11, 1928, to Earl and Goldie Gibbs Hartley at Hartford, W.V. He was the middle child in a family of five boys and one girl.

On his own at the early age of nine, he developed an independent spirit. Growing up in the Ohio River country, he fondly remembered being baptized in the Ohio River as a child.

Badger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he traveled the United States, working many jobs in many varied places.

He and his wife Joyce had one daughter, Christine, and were later divorced. Christine has a son named Andrew.
Badger met his wife Velma while both were working in the uranium mines at Ambrosia Lakes, N.M. They would have celebrated their 25th anniversary this July 4.

Badger is survived by his wife,Velma Hartley; daughter Christine Hartley and grandson Andrew; stepdaughter Vicki Day and beloved grandsons Kelsey Day and Guy Zickefoose of North Powder and Haines; stepdaughter Linda and grandson Karson of Butte, Mont., three other step-children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those who would like to make a memorial contribution in memory of Badger may do so to the First Baptist Church Of Haines -Youth Group through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543, Halfway, OR 97834.
