Hardesty, Lorne Woodburn – Obituary

Baker City, Oregon

Lorne Woodburn Hardesty, 67, a Baker City resident, died June 8, 2002, at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Visitation will be until 7 o’clock tonight at the funeral home. Pastor Lennie Spooner of the Church of the Nazarene will officiate.

Lorne was born Dec. 7, 1934, at San Francisco. He was a son of Ernest A. and Juanita M. Thompson Hardesty. He was raised and educated at in Herlong, Calif.

He entered the U.S. Army on March 5, 1957. He was honorably discharged on March 11, 1959. He received commendation as a expert rifleman.

After his time in the service, he went to work for the U.S. Government at McClellan Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic. He retired from there after 29 years of service.

Lorne and his wife, Janet, had been together since March of 1977. For the first years of their marriage, they lived in the Sacramento area where Lorne worked at the Air Force base.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and they moved to Oregon for that very reason. They moved to Baker City in 1991 and had lived here since. Lorne loved the area and found great peace and tranquility here.

He and his wife made many wonderful friends since moving to this beautiful area. He enjoyed bowling and was on a league in Baker City. He was also member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Hardesty of Baker City; his children, Lorna Thomas of Baker City, Karen Kircher of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Rick Hardesty of Reno, Nev., Kathy Saba, Matt Busse, Sheri Busse, Tim Busse and Troy Busse, all of Minnesota; his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Dixie Hardesty of Baker City; sister, Jacki Hoover of Herlong, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Juantia Hardesty.
