Robert H. Haller, 98, of Baker City, died Aug. 3, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
At his request, there will be no funeral or visitations. Disposition was by cremation. Following Mr. Haller’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered by the family he adopted 35 years ago around Balm Creek above the reservoir where he spent many happy times teaching the children to hunt and fish.
Mr. Haller was born on Feb. 3, 1909, at Houghton County, Mich., to Frank and Louise Haller. He graduated from high school at Calunet, Mich., and earned a bachelor of science degree in mining engineering at Michigan Tech Engineering at Michigan Tech University in 1932. He worked in the mines for 10 years in several states.
Robert married Gertrude in 1935 at Detroit. The couple moved to Baker County in 1944 and began ranching in the Lower Powder Valley in 1945. They ranched for 25 years before retiring and moving to Baker City.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and duplicate bridge and being a part of the Collard/Corn holidays and family gatherings for many years.
He was preceded in death by Gertrude; his parents; and his granddaughter, Mayce Collard.
Survivors include his nephew, James Darling; his adopted family, Jerry and Kathye Corn and their children, Scott Collard, Bryan and Mary Collard, Kristy Miner, Stephany Hardeman, Nikki Corn, Rikki Romans, and their children.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayce Collard Scholarship Fund through Gray’s West & Co., 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
