Goebel, William F. – Obituary

William (Bill) Frank Goebel, a lifetime resident of Wallowa, Oregon died May 12, 1982, at his home. He was 87.

Born Sept. 9, 1894 in Wallowa, he was the son of Peter and Gertrude Anna (Huber) Goebel.

As a young man he became a trained mechanic for Ford motorcars. With the declaration of World War I he joined the Army. Upon his return he married Annetta B. Cole in Enterprise, Oregon on April 15, 1926. She died March 10, 1974.

Bill was instrumental in establishing the American Legion Kruse Post #72 in Wallowa and was a charter member of the legion. During his more than 50 years of service to the organization he served in many offices and worked on many projects.

After the closing of the Wallowa mill, where he worked as tallyman, he retired to live on his small farm and raised beef and a large garden.

Survivors include daughters Dr. Joyce (Mrs. Kenneth) Ostrander of Bellevue, Washington, and Colleen (Mrs. William Bosch) of Spokane; brother Charles of Wallowa; sister Christina Waelty of Enterprise; grandchildren Vin Eric and Vanessa Ostrander, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Military committal services were conducted by Kruse Post #72 of Wallowa and interment was in the Wallowa Cemetery.
