Ruth Fox, 78, of Baker City, died July 11, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

There will be a celebration of her life and memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Elkhorn Baptist Church, 3520 Birch St. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception after the service. Ruth will be interred with her parents at Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland.

Ruthella was born on April 10, 1928, to Alexander Ellis Simonis and Suzie Payne Simonis in the old St. Elizabeth Hospital in Baker City. She attended Sunnyside Elementary School (a two-room schoolhouse) and Eagle Valley High School at Richland.

After high school, she married Paul T. Boyd of Kingsport, Tenn., at Weiser, Idaho, on July 28, 1946. They lived in Eagle Valley for three years before moving to Los Angeles in 1949. Ruth lived in Southern California for 37 years.

She married Don Fox at Ventura, Calif., on June 7, 1972. They moved to Baker City in 1980. They retired and enjoyed gardening and cultivating their raspberry patch. Her pride and joy was her grape arbor.

Ruth was a member of the Baker County Mounted Posse for seven years and enjoyed every moment of it.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul and Don; a son, David, who died in April of 2006; a sister, Lois Bateman; and brothers, Harlan, Arthur and Harold.

Survivors include her children, Paul T. Boyd Jr. of League City, Texas, Susan Quigley of Fort Mojave, Ariz., and Alex Boyd of Hollywood, Calif.; brothers, Lloyd Simonis and his wife, Juanita, of Darlington, Idaho, and Floyd Simonis and his wife, Tena, of Baker City; her sister, Jean Croxen and her husband, Tom, of Umatilla; grandchildren, Ruthann Baker, Michael James Boyd and Terry Clark of Las Vegas, Nev., Matthew Clark of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Stephanie Boyd, Kimberly Boyd and Tony Boyd; nine great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Christopher, Justin, Jacqueline, Amanda, Jessica, James and Jake; one great-great-grandson, Kameron; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to help defray her funeral expenses through Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 543 Halfway, OR 97834.
