Erskine, Robert S. – Obituary

Robert S. Erskine, 87, of Pendleton, a former Baker City resident, died Nov. 23, 2006, at Willowbrook Terrace in Pendleton.

His memorial service was Dec. 2 at Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton. Inurnment will be later at Lewiston, Idaho.

Robert was born on May 22, 1919, at Lincoln, Ark., to Robert and Grace Ham Bryant. His father, Robert, died in the flu epidemic.

Robert moved with his family to Texas and then later to Idaho where he graduated from Lewiston High School. He married Edna Mae Olson on Feb. 9, 1940, at Craigmont, Idaho. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Robert attended business school at Kinman in Spokane, Wash. He managed the Lewiston Grain Growers and later the Wallow County Grain Growers. In 1967, he went to work for the federal government in the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service in Tillamook County.

He transferred to Baker City until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Erskine and his wife lived in Baker City until 2002 when they moved to Pendleton to be closer to their children.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to golf, fish and read, although these activities were limited in his later years by failing eyesight.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Peter Erskine; and a daughter, Jonna Hagerman.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Edna Mae, who lives at Ashley Manor in Pendleton; one daughter, Jane Neal of Pendleton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
