Pioneer Resident Answers Call
Mrs. Nancy C. Daniels, pioneer resident of the county for 46 years, died August 30 at the Good Samaritan hospital in Portland, where she had been a patient about two weeks. The body was brought by C.L. Booth to Wallowa for burial.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Edgar A. Pollock, were held in the Methodist church in Wallowa Sunday afternoon. Music was by the same quartet who had sung at the funeral of Mr. Daniels, who passed away in 1920, Mr. and Mrs. K.W. McKenzie and Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Eddleman, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ross Johnson. They sang
“How firm a Foundation” and “Old Rugged Cross.”
Roy, Ross, Rex and Raymond Southwick, Leon Wortman and Doyce Clecknick, grandsons of the deceased, acted as pallbearers, and burial was in the Wallowa cemetery.
Nancy C. McGinnis was born July 20, 1882, in Raleigh county, West Virginia, and was married April 16, 1881, to C.D. Daniels. They came west in 1900 and settled in Wallowa county, which remained her home.
Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Daniels, six of whom survive: M.C. Daniels of Lewiston, Mrs. A.B. Miller of Enterprise, Mrs. J.H. Leonard of Coquille, Mrs. G.H. Lloyd of Portland, and Mrs. Myrtle Brandon and Mrs. Ersa Wortman of Wallowa. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
