Jay Breshears’ Funeral Is Held Monday at Elgin

Jay Breshears, brother of Sheriff Jesse Breshears and a well known Grande Ronde valley resident whose home was between Alicel and Lower Cove, died Saturday afternoon at the Grande Ronde hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the city hall at Elgin, with burial in the Elgin cemetery with Snodgrass and Zimmerman in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Breshears was born at Cricket Flat 45 years ago, and was a prominent farmer of the valley for many years. He was an official of the Blue Mountain grange.

Survivors include his widow, two children, other relatives, and a large circle of friends. Further details of Mr. Breshears’ life will be published later.

Note: It states that Jay Breshears is a brother to Sheriff Jesse Breshears. This is not true. Jay was the son of Joseph Breshears and Mary Ellen Graham. Jesse was the son of Ruben Breshears and Anna Boly.
