Bennett, Paul Vincent – Obituary

Paul Vincent Bennett, 89, died March 29, 2007, at Salt Lake City.

There will be a service to celebrate his life at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the Burnt River Community Church at Unity.

A native of Butler, N.J., he was a graduate of St. Anthony’s Catholic School. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and later served in the Merchant Marines, sailing on liberty ships during World War II hauling ammunition, fuel and troops. Later in life he loved to tell stories of his adventures around the world.

Pursuing his passion to own a ranch in the West, he moved to California. He purchased his first ranch at Columbia, Calif. Soon thereafter, he met the love of his life, Pauline Allwein. They were married in 1951. Together their raised a son, Mark, and a daughter, Mary.

While ranching, Paul worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. doing general construction, building transmission lines and later in the distribution unit until he retired. In retirement, he moved the ranch operation to Oregon where he purchased three ranches that he operated with his son and daughter’s families.

Survivors include Pauline, his beloved wife of 55 years; his children, Mark and Patti Bennett of Unity and Mary and Steve Vuyovich of Tooele, Utah; grandchildren, Julie and John Semsen, and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn of Miwuk Village, Calif., and Paul E. Bennett of Tuolumne, Calif.,and Jenna and Krista Vuyovich of Tooele, Utah; his brother, Bud Bennett, and sister, Mae Braen, both of New Jersey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends scatted across the United States.

“Though we are deeply saddened at our earthy loss, we are so thankful that we will someday be together again in heaven. Paul knew his purpose in life was to live for God, and he provided a wonderful example of that to all of us,” his family said.

Family members expressed appreciation to the many doctors, nurses and others at Holy Rosary Medical Center in Oregon, Mountain States Tumor in Idaho and the LDS Hospital in Utah and the kindness of family and friends.
