Baxter, Roy John – Obituary

Roy John Baxter, 89, formerly of Baker City, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2003.

At his request, a private family graveside service was held at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.

Roy was born May 31, 1914, in Telocaset, the son of Susie (Briggs) and William Barnes Baxter. He attended High School in Union, and graduated in 1932. Roy joined the Oregon National Guard in 1938, 41st Infantry, Fort Lewis, Wash. He was called to active service Sept. 16,1940. Roy was wounded in August, 1944 in New Guinea and returned to the states on Dec. 8, 1944. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Roy was discharged Feb. 22, 1946, as lst Lieutenant. He married Doris Peterson, a 1939 BHS graduate on Dec. 28,1944, in Baker.

He attended and graduated from the Kansas City School of Watch Making and Jewelry Repair. He worked as a jeweler until he retired in 1977. Roy was a life member of the South Everett Lion’s Club and he participated in many youth programs while his children were young.

Roy is survived by his wife, Doris, their three children. William (Cherri) Baxter, Jan (Larry) Popejoy. and John (Kathy) Baxter, two grandchildren, Shanna (Travis) Marshall, and Derek Baxter

Remembrances can be made to South Everett Lion’s Club or Hospice of Snohomish County, Wash.
Arrangements were under the care of Solie Funeral Home and Crematory.
