Bacon, Lesa Kathreena Mrs. – Obituary

Lesa Kathreena Bacon, 84, of Baker City and a former longtime Sumpter resident, died Feb. 6, 2008, at Meadowbrook Place.

Her cremated remains will be inurned at the Sumpter Cemetery this spring.

Lesa was born in Germany and moved to the United States with her aunt in 1923 at the age of 3 months. She grew up on a farm at Peoria, Ill., until the age of 25 when she married. Lesa moved to California after her first marriage.

She moved to Sumpter about 20 years ago where she bought and ran the Elkhorn Restaurant. While in Sumpter, she remarried and took the name Bacon.

Lesa sold the restaurant after a few years but remained in Sumpter where she and her husband were active with the Sumpter Dredge. She was a guide on the dredge for many years. The couple built a home together in Sumpter where Lesa lived until she moved to Baker City four years ago at age 80.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and especially cooking. When she had her apartment in Baker City, she loved preparing meals and treats for her friends.

Lesa did not judge others or spend time gossiping, her family said. Instead she worried about her own actions and how she could help others. She was a very kind, caring and honest woman.

Survivors include her children, Lee Rabner of Fresno, Calif., John and Frankie and her grandchildren, Lori, Adriane and David Rabner.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pathway Hospice through Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
