Erna Bea Paulson Anderburg, 89, formerly of Haines, died Dec. 25, 2006, in Southern California.
Private family internment of her ashes is scheduled April 2 at Mount Hope Cemetery. There will be a no-host dinner at the Haines Steak House afterward at 5 p.m. Everyone who would like to remember Mrs. Anderburg is invited.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1917, at Haines to Erna Loennig Paulson and Norris Paulson. Erna Bea, as she was known to her relatives and friends, attended school in Haines and Muddy Creek until on doctor’s orders her parents moved her and her two sisters to Los Angeles for health reasons.
Mrs. Anderburg graduated from UCLA and then joined her father in Washington, D.C., where he was serving as the congressman from the district that encompassed Hollywood. During World War II, she served in the Women’s Army Corps in Washington, D.C.
In 1950 she married Edward Anderburg, a career diplomat with the State Department. She accompanied him to postings in China and the Caribbean. They divorced in 1960.
Mrs. Anderburg joined the English Department at Hollywood High School shortly after her divorce and remained there as a teacher and later department head until her retirement at 72.
Mrs. Anderburg traveled extensively during school vacations. She spoke often of returning to Baker City with her mother and sisters to stay at the newly renovated Geiser Grand Hotel and on her last trip to this area enjoyed lunch there after a tour. She was most pleased to see how well its former grandeur had been recreated.
She particularly made excursions to major art exhibits in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York. She and her two sisters made many trips to Europe to see art collections as well as attend music festivals.
One of 13 Loennig first cousins, she visited them often.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Willis and Norrisa Brandt; and her niece, Ramona Brandt.
Survivors include six nieces and nephews, Norris, Alf, Elenna, Henry, Erna, and Dianna; eight grandnieces and nephews; and cousins in the Haines area, Ed Hayhurst, Mary Loennig Rider, Elsie Loennig Newman, Diane Loennig Getchell, Bill Loennig, and Sally Loennig Ganter and their spouses, as well as Emily Loennig Theodosiou of Walnut Creek, Calif., Alice Ann Faringer of Yakima, Wash., and other Hayhurst cousins.
