1929-2003

James Burn Allen, 74, formerly of Wallowa, died Sept. 25 in Western Oregon.

A graveside gathering will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Lostine Cemetery.

Allen was born April 26, 1929, in Wallowa. He spent much of his younger years hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He worked as a mechanic for 18 years for Herberd Bates in Wallowa, He then worked for Boise Cascade on the road crew.

Allen was married to Sally Lathrop from 1949 to 1969 and they had five children.

He is survived by his children, Jim Allen, Lostine; Randy Allen, Issaquah, Wash.; Jeff Allen, Lostine; Donna Cochrane, Middleton, Idaho; and Chris Allen, Pendleton; his mother and stepfather, Dora and Cy Allen, Milton-Freewater; two brothers, John Allen, Myrtle Creek, and Greg Allen, Hermiston; a sister, Glenda Allen of Walla-Walla, 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

His father James C. Allen and a sister, Gracie, died earlier.
