Elvin Aldrich Haines Native Died Jan. 30

Elvin Dutch Aldrich,79 of Haines/Rock Creek passed away Saturday, Jan.30 at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital.

Mr. Aldrich was born May 16, 1902 in Bear Valley, Or., Grant Co. to Mr. and Mrs. Elery F. and Dessie E. Helmick-Aldrich. He attended schools in Bear Valley and came to the Rock Creek area at the age of 19.

He married Mona Yankey in Baker, on May 23, 1929. They ranched together at Rock Creek for many years in which pet peacocks were a common sight on their ranch.

He was the Grand Marshall at the Haines Rodeo two years ago. Mr. Aldrich had a great love for the mountains.

He is survived by his wife Mona L. Aldrich of Rock Creek; three sons, Gary Elvin Aldrich of Baker, Navarro Neil Aldrich of Haines and Robert Ray Aldrich of Longview; four brothers, Lewis Aldrich of Haines, George W. Aldrich of Haines, Jim William of Dexter and Rite William of Bothel; two sisters, Mina E. Brannock of Baker, and Virginia N. Hess of Long Beach, Ca.; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and foster children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; O. Elery Aldrich, Everett E. Aldrich and Charlie E. William and a baby sister.

Funeral service for Mr. Aldrich was conducted Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. in Gray’s West and Co. Pioneer Chapel. Rev. Robert A. Jackson of the United Presbyterian Church officiated and interment followed at the Haines Cemetery.
