Ernest Edgar Adams, 93, of Elgin died June 9 at a local care center. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elgin Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.

Mr. Adams was born April 12, 1913, to John William and Emily Jane Law Adams in Elgin. He graduated from Elgin High School and attended Eastern Oregon Normal School for a year. He worked for the box factory when he was young and played on a minor league baseball team.

On Nov. 11, 1933, he married Frances Elizabeth Gilkison in Union. During World War II they lived in Portland and he was part owner of a Tacoma lumber mill. They returned to Elgin where he worked as a carpenter, plumber and electrician. He built many homes and businesses in Union County.

He owned Adams Supply in Elgin for many years. When he moved locations he renamed the business Ern’s Plumbing and Heating. After the death of his wife he married Laurose Hibberd on April 30, 2005.

He was a member and past president of the Elgin Stampeders, a charter member of the Indian Valley Good Sam Club, a member of the Elgin Masonic Lodge, the Elgin Lions Club and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being with children, and taking winter trips to Mexico.

Survivors include his wife of Elgin; daughters, Farrell Maxwell of Haines, Betty Lou Martin of Elgin and Terry Adams-High of Portland; step-daughters, Mary West and Carrie Bingaman, both of Imbler; a brother, Ken Adams of Elgin; a sister, Millie Lind of Kennewick; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and other relatives. An infant son, Errol, and siblings, Ruth Puckett, George Adams, John Richard Adams, Lucy Shear, Arthur Adams and Laura Roulet, all died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children or the Elgin Stampeders in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
