Biography of Carl E. Seastrand

Carl E. Seastrand, manager for the John Lumbard Tire & Supply Company of Muskogee, was born in Sweden on the 12th of April, 1877, and is a son of Carl A. and Christina Sjostrand, who were also natives of Sweden.

The father was a shoe merchant in that country, devoting his entire life to the business. He also engaged in the manufacture of shoes, employing twelve men in that connection. He died in February, 1918, and is still survived by his widow, who yet makes her home in Sweden.

Carl E. Seastrand was reared and educated in his native country, supplementing his public school training by a business course.

He was then employed as a bookkeeper in a wholesale grocery house for a period of two years, after which he went upon the road for the same house, traveling through northern Sweden until 1907, when he came to America, attracted by the opportunities of the new world. He first made his way to Detroit, Michigan, where he went to work in the Morgan & Wright factory and there learned the tire business, becoming familiar with every phase of the trade during the year in which he remained with the house.

In 1908 Mr. Seastrand arrived in Oklahoma and secured a position as bookkeeper with the Lumbard & Severin Tire Company of Oklahoma City, with which he remained until 1912, when he came with John Lumbard to Muskogee and here engaged in the tire business under the firm name of the John Lumbard Tire & Supply Company. Mr. Lumbard passed away on the 5th of October, 1918. Mrs. Lumbard, his widow, is a sister of Mr. Seastrand and they have continued the business together since. They carry an enormous stock of tires and are distributors for the United States Tire Company for the entire eastern part of Oklahoma. They also have a branch establishment at Okmulgee and at Bartlesville, Oklahoma, having established the latter in 1915, while the Okmulgee branch was opened in 1919. They likewise carry a full line of automobile accessories and the firm employs twenty people in their different establishments. Their business has grown steadily until it is a most gratifying one and the enterprise of Mr. Seastrand has been a most potent force in the attainment of the present-day success. In addition to his tire and automobile accessories business he owns a farm in Muskogee county comprising one hundred and sixty acres of rich land, from which he derives a good annual rental.

In July, 1910, Mr. Seastrand was united in marriage to Miss Polly Farmer and to them have been born two daughters : Polly Hilda, born November 11, 1912; and Phyllis Hulda, born August 23, 1915. Mr. Seastrand is a Mason who has attained the Knight Templar degree of the commandery and is also connected with the Mystic Shrine at Muskogee. His endorsement is given to the republican party and in religious belief he is a Baptist.

His life has been guided by high and honorable principles and the sterling worth of his character is attested by all with whom he has been associated through business or social relations.
