Sorenson, Nielsine ‘Sine’ Pedersen – Obituary

Mrs. Soren Sorenson, 77, a Kittitas Valley pioneer, died Tuesday [September 3, 1940] at the Ellensburg General Hospital following a two week’s illness.

Born Nielsine Pedersen in Holme, Denmark, Sept. 10, 1862, she came to America at the age of 27, living in the state of Ohio for a short time before coming to the Kittitas Valley in 1889 with her brother, Peder Pedersen.

On Oct. 29, 1890, she was married to Soren Sorenson, a prominent valley farmer. The first year of their marriage, they lived on the John Denton place in the Broadview District. Then they moved to their own farm in the Denmark District, where they lived until Mr. Sorenson’s death in 1931. Since then Mrs. Sorenson has made her home with her children.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. Ralph [Bertha] Lynch , John O. Sorenson, Albert Sorenson, Mrs. Norman [Agnes] Richardson, and Harold Sorenson, all of Ellensburg, and Mrs. N. P. [Dorothea] Nylander of Seattle. There are also 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a brother, Peder Pedersen of Ellensburg and two brothers living in Denmark.

Funeral services are being held from the Honeycutt Chapel this morning at 10:30 o’clock. Rev. W. H. Thompson will conduct the services. Honorary pallbearers will be pioneer friends of Mrs. Sorenson. They are Louis Larsen, Nels Larsen, Frank Schorman, Mike Schorman, Fred Jacobson, Morris Sorensen, and John Christenson. Active pallbearers include Carl Jacobson, Andy Larsen, Elmer Jacobson, E. K. Nicolaisen, Peter Schorman and Hans Jensen.
