Biographical Sketch of Henry Reynolds Hatch

Hatch, Henry Reynolds; retired; born, Grand Isle, Vt., Oct. 3, 1831; son of Abijah and Abigail Lyon Hatch; early education in mercantile lines; married, October, 1857, Miss Lyda Baldwin, deceased in 1886; issue, six children, two living; second marriage, November, 1888, to Mary Cummings Brown of Newark, N. J.; issue, two children, Esther and Henry Reynolds, Jr.; early life spent in mercantile positions in New England; came to Cleveland in 1853, and went to work for E. I. Baldwin & Co., dry goods; later became a member of the firm of E. I. Baldwin, Hatch & Co.; upon the death of Mr. Baldwin, assumed entire management of business with the junior partners, who later assumed control; corporate member and member finance committee of the Society for Savings; prominent in banking interests; formerly vice pres. and trustee Lake View Cemetery Ass’n; at that time the association was bankrupt; got it re-established and built the present fine stone office; has spent much time in travel abroad; elder Euclid Ave. Presbyterian Church; in 1890, erected a home for waifs at a cost of $20,000, known as Lyda Baldwin Infant’s Rest; trustee Y. W. C. A.
