Pack, Charles Lathrop; forestry expert; born, Lexington, Mich., May 7, 1857; son of George Willis and Frances (Farman) Pack; educated, public schools and Brooks School, Cleveland; studied forestry in Black Forests, Germany; spent several years exploring forests of Canada, the Northwest, Louisiana and Mississippi; married Alice Gertrude Hatch, of Cleveland, Ohio, April 28, 1886; for many years pres. Pack Woods Co., of Michigan (now out of business); for twenty-five years one of largest manufacturers of lumber in United States; owner of pine timber lands; director Sea-board National Bank, New York; one of the founders of Cleveland Trust Co.; life member; member executive committee National Conservation Ass’n; member board of directors American Conservation Ass’n; member New Jersey Forest Park Commission; upon invitation of President Roosevelt, attended as expert, the White House Conference of Governors, May, 1907; appointed by Pres. Roosevelt, member Conservation commission; has attended every important conference on forestry or conservation since 1900; Republican; member Indianapolis Sound Money Convention; member Monetary Commission; member 1st City Troop, Cleveland, Cleveland Chamber of Commerce (expres.); trustee Western Reserve University; Presbyterian. Clubs: Union, Country, Mayfield Heights (Cleveland), Union League, National Arts, Ohio Society (New York), Country (Lakewood), N. J.
