1st Lt., Inf., Co. C, 5th Div., 6th Regt.; of Craven County; son of Thomas and Mary Daniels. Husband of Mrs. Josie Smith Daniels. Entered service Aug. 15, 1917, at New Bern, N.C. Sent to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Transferred to Camp Merritt. Sailed for France Feb. 27, 1918. Fought at Chateau-Thierry, St. Die, Naumont. He was wounded by high explosive shell at the Battle of Frappelle, Aug. 18, 1918, and gassed at St. Pierre de Cour Aug. 12th. Sent to Base Hospital No. 11, Nantes. Returned to USA Jan. 17, 1919. Mustered out at U. S. G. H. No. 11, May 24, 1919.
