Ancestry
Ancestry remains the premier genealogy program online. With over 2 BILLION records, no other online website has near the amount of data...
FootNote
The new kid on the block, FootNote is known for digitizing historical documents... many of which are genealogical gems. With naturalizations, city directories, war records, newspapers, town records, etc... this new kid is quickly being recognized as an alternative to Ancestry.

While we know our northern friends may not feel it, in the South, Spring is here. So we thought we'd share a few of our gardening sites appropriate for this time of the year. Along with gardening, there's grilling, and getting ready to diet so that you can fit back into that bathing suit this summer!

Vermont Chronicle

This website provides an index to the Vermont Chronicle for the years 1826-1874. This covers the paper during the years it was located in the towns of Bellows Falls and Windsor. There is very little information available within the index, but certain items can be assessed as to whether desired information is present. For instance, a search for Partridge in the "VERMONT CHRONICLE 1866 Mo-Sa INDEX" produced for me the following results:

Partridge Cyrus Newark, Ill husband C0550
Partridge F. W. Newark, Ill son C1313
Partridge Franklin Newark, Ill son C1314
Partridge H. M. Newark, Ill son C1315
Partridge Mary Newark, Ill death C0188

Up front you would think that there is very little to find here. But on second look you can tell that Mary Partridge died prob. 1866 in Newark, Ill., leaving husband, Cyrus, and children, F.W., Franklin, and H.M. all of Newark, Ill.

The last column denotes a reference number for the author of the webpage. By providing the author that item number and a steep $5 per item, you can obtain a digitized image of the article. To have that article emailed to you in digitized fashion costs you $6. I believe this is expensive for a digitized item, but the choice is yours to make.
