Elgin, Union County, Oregon
The death of H.L. Buell a well known Elgin citizen occurred in this city, Sunday morning June 28, 1905, after an illness of only a few days. Tuesday of last week Mr. Buell accidently took a dose of aconite, thinking it camphor. The day of the accident it was thought that his life could not be saved, but by hard work on the part of the physicians Mr. Buell was considerable relieved from the effects of the poison and it was thought that he would recover but death came Sunday morning.
Hosmer L. Buell was born in New York, May 31, 1836. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the army of the Cumberland. He participated in many battles and saw active duty until the close of the war, being mustered out June, 1865.
Deceased came to Elgin in 1890 and engaged in the drug business, which he followed until two years ago. During the term of years Mr. buell was engaged in business in Elgin he was very successful and had much to do with Elgin’s advancement. Deceased was a member of Elgin Lodge No. 98 A.F. & A.M. and Nathan Baker Post G.A.R. Funeral services were conducted in the Presyterian church by Rev. Willis Tuesday afternoon. The masonic burial ceremony was performed at the grave.
Deceased leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Joe and Hale and one daughter, Mrs. Mable Parks.
