Joseph Carter

JOSEPH CARTER was b. in Little Harbor Oct. 18, 1776. His mother’s name was Sarah Williams, who after the death of Mr. Carter, m. William Lucy and had by him seven children. (See Lucy.) Joseph came to town when young; m. Nov. 15, 1804, Margaret Taylor of Cornish, dau. of Capt. Joseph and Elizabeth (Sumner) Taylor, b. June 7, 1782, and d. April 15, 1855. He d. April 24, 1843. Children:

1. MARY ADALINE, b. Feb. 22, 1806; d. unm., Oct. 22, 1841.
2. SILOAM S., b. Dec. 7, 1808; m. April 23, 1843, in Nashua, Nancy D.
Smith. He d. Feb. 5, 1849, in Lansing, Mich. He is said to have been a successful business man.
3. MATILDA E., b. Aug. 7, 1811; m. July 10, 1839, Benjamin P. Wood. Lived a few years in Cornish, then in Acworth, and finally in Claremont, where she d. May 31, 1896. He d. Feb. 21, 1892. They had one child:
A. Ella E., b. June 15, 1854, in Cornish, who d. unm. in Claremont July 27, 1898.
4. BETSEY COBB, b. Nov. 11, 1815; m. Oct. 22, 1838, Charles Ball of Claremont, where they res. and where she d. July 13, 1872. One child:
A. Mary Elizabeth, b. Jan. 24, 1842, who m. Sept. 4, 1860, Samuel Danforth of Claremont.
5. JUDITH BRYANT, b. June 1, 1818. Never m. She d. June 22, 1885.
6. PHEBE W., b. Nov. 29, 1822; m. Nov. 29, 1866, Paul Fitch of Claremont, where she lived. No children. She d. March 9, 1910, in Claremont.
