While we know our northern friends may not feel it, in the South, Spring is
here. So we thought we'd share a few of our gardening sites appropriate
for this time of the year. Along with gardening, there's grilling, and getting
ready to diet so that you can fit back into that bathing suit this summer!
Barton gives the Mahican
3 clans:
Muchquauh (bear),
Mechchaooh (wolf),
Toonpaooh (turtle).
According to Morgan they had originally the same clans
as the Delaware and Munsee-the Wolf, Turtle, and Turkey; but these
ultimately developed into phratries, subdivided into clans as follows:
The Tooksetuk (wolf) phratry into the Nehjao (wolf), Makwa (bear), Ndeyao
(dog), and Wapakwe (opossum) clans; the Tonebao (turtle) phratry into the
Gakpomute (little turtle), (mud turtle), Tonebao (great turtle), and
Wesawmaun (yellow eel) clans: the Turkey phratry into the Naahnlao
(turkey), Gahko (crane), and (chicken) clans.
