Adirondack (Mohawk: Hatiroñ′ăks, they eat trees , a name given in allusion to the eating of the bark of trees in time of famine. Hewitt). The Algonquian tribes N. of the St Lawrence with which the Iroquois were acquainted, particularly those along Ottawa and St Maurice rs. , who were afterward settled at Three Rivers and Oka, Quebec.
